2001 Kathy's Cuvee Pinot Noir 1.5L
This 2001 Pinot noir was made with grapes sourced from the highly acclaimed Las Brisas Vineyard, a very special, extremely windy (hence the name) spot in the Carneros appellation that expresses deep plum and blackberry fruit flavors that marry beautifully with the French oak barrels in which it aged for 16 months. Las Brisas translates to “the breezes”, but should probably be named “gale force winds”, lol.
This wine offers a generous mouthful of flavor and will give you many more years of hedonistic pleasure. This wine was originally intended as a special 81 case Talisman single vineyard bottling; Scott was given the opportunity to choose his 4 favorite barrels from the 42 barrels made from Las Brisas Vineyard in 2001.
As the back label explains, while bottling this very special wine in January of 2003, we got the call that our dear friend Kathy had died in an avalanche while skiing in Canada, she was just 39 years old. There was no question that we would name this wine after her. We promoted this bottling through four restaurants in Tahoe who also donated their proceeds to the Truckee Donner Land Trust, which was so dear to Kathy.
